Tehran - Iran has unveiled four knowledge-based fisheries products alongside a biotechnology project for the breeding and cultivation of the Persian Gulf seahorse, on the sidelines of the 4th International Exhibition of Marine Industries and Maritime Affairs in the port city of Bandar Abbas in south.

 

The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Iran Fisheries Organization, highlighting the government’s growing emphasis on innovation and technology-driven development in the fisheries sector.

 

Masoud Barani, Director General of Hormozgan Fisheries, said the newly introduced products are the result of close cooperation between domestic specialists and knowledge-based companies operating in aquaculture, algae-derived products, and marine technologies.

 

He described the achievements as “a significant step toward advancing modern fisheries technologies and realizing a sea-oriented economic model.”

 

According to Barani, the algae-based products, designed for health and cosmetic applications, promote the sustainable use of marine resources while creating new opportunities for Iran’s fisheries industry to enter high-value health and beauty markets.

 

Barani noted that the products were developed through joint research initiatives involving provincial scientific institutions, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability.

 

The provincial official also highlighted the successful implementation of the Persian Gulf seahorse breeding and cultivation biotechnology project, describing the seahorse as a valuable and protected marine species.

 

“Developing industrial-scale breeding capabilities for this species will contribute to biodiversity conservation while expanding research capacity and export potential,” he said, adding that Iran has now joined a select group of countries capable of breeding seahorses using advanced biotechnological methods.
