Iran's tropical fruit production at 8.8m tons
A total of 8.8 million tons of tropical fruits have been
produced in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year on March 21,
2022, according to director general of the Agriculture Ministry’s Tropical and
Sub-Tropical Fruits Department.
“This year, some 8.8 million tons of
tropical fruits were harvested from over 730,000 hectares of land,” Zahra
Jalili-Moqaddam said on Friday.
She added that nearly 650,000 tons of sub-tropical fruits
were exported in the first ten months of the Iranian calendar year, registering
a 100,000 tons rise in weight compared to the same period last year.
“Over 3.4 million tons of oranges
were produced this year. The production of dates also stood at 1.4 million
tons,” the official said.
Tropical fruits include mangoes, bananas, sapodilla, guavas
and papayas and the provinces of Hormozgan and Sistan-Baluchestan as well as
southern Kerman are tropical fruit production hubs of Iran.
