Iran to host international congress on animal science
The Iranian Ministry of Agriculture will organize the 2nd
International Congress and the 9th National Congress on animal science on
August 30-31 in Karaj, the capital of the north-central Iranian province of
Alborz.
“The 2nd International Congress and
the 9th National Congress on animal science will be held with the aim of
developing sustainable animal husbandry across Iran,” Mohammad Moradi
Shahrbabak, the secretary of the congress, said on Monday.
He added that specialized panels on light livestock, heavy
livestock, and poultry will be also held on the sidelines of the event.
Members of academic boards, experts, researchers, breeders
from across the world including the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, Sweden, New
Zealand, Pakistan, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium will be present at
the two-day function, Moradi said.
Animal Science is concerned with the science and business of
producing domestic livestock species, including but not limited to beef cattle,
dairy cattle, horses, poultry, and sheep. An animal scientist applies
principles of the biological, physical, and social sciences to the problems
associated with livestock production and management. Animal Science is also
concerned with foods of animal origin: meat, dairy foods, and eggs. In addition,
animal science is concerned with aspects of companion animals, including their
nutrition, care, and welfare.
Animal scientists must have formal training and appropriate
experience to learn and apply the complex principles involved in animal production,
care, and use. Knowledge of such basic subjects as animal behavior and
management, genetics, microbiology, nutrition, physiology, reproduction, and
meat science is essential to persons entering most animal sciences professions.
However, a farm or animal-related background is not required.
