Iran sets sight on exports of livestock, poultry products to Iraqi Kurdistan

Iran sets sight on exports of livestock, poultry products to
Iraqi Kurdistan

The Iranian deputy minister for livestock products said the
country is ready to export livestock and poultry products to Iraq's
semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

“Both sides stressed the need for the expansion of bilateral
cooperation,” Hossein Damavandi-Nejad said after a recent meeting with
representatives of Kurdistan region in Tehran.

He added that Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region also
agreed over exports of livestock and poultry products to the region.

Noting that the Iranian government has set sight on both
regional and transregional markets for exports of products, Damavandi-Nejad
said Tehran will also transfer its knowledge the Iraqi Kurdistan.

Exports of Holstein and Simmental heifers were discussed
during the meeting, he said.

The ban on export of non-reproductive livestock has been
lifted, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported.

Presently, Iran has four million head of livestock in excess
of domestic demand, while 10 provinces are now in an emergency situation due to
drought and shortage of fodder.

The total number of light and heavy livestock in Iran has
been reported at around 73 million.
