Iran seeks investment to boost aquaculture industry

Tehran – Iran's Fisheries Organization is actively seeking foreign investment to expand its offshore cage and shrimp aquaculture industry.

The organization's head, Seyed Hossein Hosseini, emphasized the need for sustainable practices and rigorous environmental assessments to ensure the long-term viability of the sector.

To mitigate potential ecological risks, he highlighted the importance of introducing non-breeding, or monosex, species.

"We are committed to responsible aquaculture," Hosseini stated. "By carefully selecting and managing introduced species, we can balance economic growth with environmental preservation."

“Iran is collaborating with international partners, including Bahrain and India, to share knowledge and expertise in aquaculture techniques. The country is also investing in research and development to identify species that are well-suited to its specific environmental conditions.”

To encourage investment, the Fisheries Organization is advocating for specialized insurance policies tailored to the unique risks associated with marine aquaculture.

Additionally, the organization is promoting large-scale, integrated aquaculture projects, or mega-farms, which can offer significant economies of scale and improved environmental performance.
