Iran ranks fourth in honey production / UNIDO announces
readiness to transfer new technologies

 


Hossein Damavandinejad in a meeting with members of the
UNIDO Central Organization, beekeeping organizations and the National
Beekeeping Development Support Fund, stated that: Iran has a high capacity for
the development of beekeeping, honey production and by-products in terms of
geography and climatic diversity, and it is expected that UNIDO pays special
attention to this industry in our country.



He pointed to Iran's 4th place in the world in honey
production based on the latest FAO statistic, and stated that: We are looking
for a more comprehensive program with tangible results in the field of
beekeeping industry.



Damavandinejad added: We must quickly enter into a jump
program right away and the UNIDO Central Organization can cooperate in the
field of diversity and development of bee products and the development of
international markets in the region and the world for honey production and its
by-products. He also called on UNIDO to work with organizations, unions and the
private sector to achieve more tangible results, increase the professional
skills of beekeepers, develop business and provide sustainable employment in
the Iranian beekeeping industry.



Emphasis on implementing joint projects with UNIDO



Touraj Saremi, while referring to the history of cooperation
with the UNIDO executive team in Iran in the country's beekeeping industry,
said: The first multilateral memorandum of cooperation was signed between the
Deputy Minister of Livestock Production of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture,
the National Beekeeping Development Fund, and the National Union of Iranian
Beekeepers with UNIDO in 2016, since that date, three cooperation agreements, a
joint action plan and a development plan in the beekeeping industry have been
implemented with the participation of all project stakeholders. He also added
that: The joint action plan includes improving the quality of beekeepers'
technical training, developing national standards for honey and by-products,
upgrading the beekeeping value chain and connecting to international brands,
improving production efficiency, a comprehensive disease prevention and control
program in the beekeeping industry, and genetic upgrading of the queen bee.
