Iran produces over 90 percent of world’s saffron: Minister
Tehran – The Iranian Minister of Agriculture announced that Iran accounts for more than 90 percent of global saffron production, reaffirming the country’s leading position in the market.
Gholamreza Nouri, marking National Saffron Day, described saffron as a symbol of Iran’s cultural identity and agricultural heritage, noting its growing global recognition as “Iran’s Red Gold.”
The minister emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among research, agricultural, and commercial sectors and to raise public awareness about the product’s economic and export potential.
Nouri also highlighted the global reputation of Iranian saffron for its unique aroma and quality, as well as the expanding role of knowledge-based companies and modern industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics, in increasing its value-added potential.
He concluded by expressing appreciation to the farmers, exporters, and researchers who sustain Iran’s leadership in saffron production and called for continued innovation, sustainable growth, and international market expansion.
