Iran in pursuit of
commercializing plant tissue culture
The Iranian government
has plans underway to remove the obstacles that still exit in relation to the
commercialization of plant tissue culture- one of the key trending technologies
in the plant biotechnology research field.
In a recent symposium
held in Tehran, the participants explored ways to remove the obstacles and
facilitate the commercialization of plant tissue culture.
A collection of
techniques used to maintain or grow plant cells, tissues or organs under
sterile conditions on a nutrient culture medium of known composition were also
introduced and discussed during the event, which was organized by the National
Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.
Plant tissue culture is
widely used to produce clones of a plant in a method known as micropropagation,
which is the practice of rapidly multiplying plant stock material to produce
many progeny plants, using modern plant tissue culture methods.
