Iran’s farmed shrimp output exceeds 60K tons
More than 60,000 tons of shrimps have been produced in Iran
since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21,
2022), registering a 5% rise year-on-year, the deputy head of Iran’s Fisheries
Organization (IFO) said.
Iranian shrimp farmers have managed to produce 61,000 tons
of shrimp in the current Iranian calendar year (ends on March 20), Mehdi
Shakouri said in an interview on Sunday.
He added that a major portion of this amount has been
produced in the provinces of Bushehr, Khuzestan, Golestan and Sistan and
Baluchestan.
Noting that the figure is expected to increase by the end of
the fiscal year, Shakouri said this year’s output is five percent more than the
figure for the previous year.
He further said this year over 5.5 billion shrimp larvae
were produced in the country and more than 90,000 tons of feed was also
produced by domestic producers.
The deputy head of the IFO went on to add that nearly 60 to
70 percent of the farmed shrimps- which amount to 50,000 tons- are annually exported
to China, Vietnam, Europe, France and Spain.
Iran has been encouraging increased exports of food and
farming products in recent years in a bid to diversify its economy away from
crude revenues.
