Iran eyes 5-fold rise in agricultural trade with
Turkmenistan

The volume of agricultural trade exchanges between Iran and
Turkmenistan is expected to increase five-fold in the current crop year, the
agriculture acting minister said.

“We are seeking to increase the
volume of trade between the two countries from $90 million to $400 million in
current year,” Mohammad Aghamiri said on Tuesday in a meeting with an economic
delegation from Turkmenistan visiting the Iranian capital Tehran.

He added, “Iran and Turkmenistan enjoy deep cultural
commonalities and age-old economic cooperation”.

The two nations have great potential to boost their
agricultural ties and import and export fruits, summer crops, livestock meat, aquatic
animals, the interim minister said.

“We are ready to sign memorandums of
understating as well as cooperation documents to further develop our ties,”
Aghamiri said.

Late on Tuesday, Iran and Turkmenistan signed five
cooperation documents in areas of electricity transfer, comprehensive
cooperation in areas of diplomacy and customs, and higher education.

The agreements were signed at the presence of President
Ebrahim Raisi of Iran and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the chairman of the
People's Council of Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedow arrived in the Iranian capital on Tuesday for
a meeting with Iranian officials, including President Raisi.

He is leading a politico-economic delegation.
