Iran exports 6 tons of rose essences, products: Official

Some six tons of Damask rose’s essences and products were
exported in the past Iranian calendar year 1401 (ended on March 20), an
official with Iran’s Agriculture Ministry said.

Hossein Zeinali on Tuesday put the volume of Damask rose’s
essences and products exported from Iran in 1401 at six tons.

He said Iran ranks first in the world in terms of
cultivation and production of Damask rose, noting, however, that the country’s
share in its business is insignificant and meager.

“Currently, 30,000 hectares of
farmland are under the cultivation of Damask rose across the country, showing a
48 percent rise compared to previous years,” Zeinali said.

He further said that Iran, employing novel and modern
methods and technologies, has managed to increase its rose production by 88
percent in the past years.

Damask rose is renowned for its fine fragrance and it is the
main ingredient of all perfumes. Used in perfumery and aromatherapy, absolutes
are similar to essential oils. They are concentrated, highly aromatic, oily
mixtures extracted from plants such as Damask rose.

Iran has been mentioned as the birthplace of Damask rose,
regardless of the name.
