Iran expects a bumper pistachio harvest this year

An official with Iran's Ministry of Agriculture predicted a
significant increase in pistachio production this year, with an estimated
370,000 tons by March 2024.

This marks a turnaround from last year's decline and
coincides with a rise in pistachio exports, Dariush Salempour, the director
general of the dried fruits affairs department at Iran’s Ministry of
Agriculture, said.

The ministry is collaborating with the UN Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) on a project to improve pistachio production and
export practices, he said, adding this project, funded by the FAO's Technical
Cooperation Program, aims to modernize production processes and enhance health
standards through technical and financial assistance.

The primary workshop for this project has already been held,
highlighting the importance of international cooperation in boosting Iran's
pistachio industry.
