Iran, India agree to form joint committee for agricultural
cooperation
Iran and India agreed to establish a joint committee to
enhance agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
The decision was made during a meeting between Iran's Deputy
Minister of Agriculture, Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi, and Manoj Ahuja, Secretary
of India's Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The officials discussed the current state of bilateral
cooperation in agriculture and highlighted the potential for collaboration in
areas such as horticultural products, medicinal plants, pest control,
agricultural technologies, and research institutions. Boroumandi emphasized the
importance of removing tariff barriers to facilitate the future expansion of
relations.
Ahuja acknowledged the cultural and geographical
similarities between the two countries and expressed India's willingness to
strengthen agricultural ties with Iran.
Additionally, Ahuja announced that India has lifted its
temporary ban on Kiwi exports to Iran due to quarantine concerns.
The two sides agreed to form a joint committee for
agricultural cooperation within the next three months.
