Iran aims to plant one billion trees to combat climate
change, global warming
As part of a global initiative to help save the Earth from
climate change and biodiversity loss, the Iranian government has set a goal to
plant a billion trees across the country by 2028, an official said.
“Plant a Billion Trees” campaign is a major forest
restoration program developed by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change to slow the connected crises of climate change, Hamid Reza Soleimani,
the head of the Innovation and Technology Center of Iran’s Natural Resources
and Watershed Management Organization said on Sunday.
He added that the One Billion Trees Program seeks to reduce
carbon pollution and global warming, protect water and soil, deal with dust
particles and protect human life.
Soleimani added that the trees will be planted within four
years in lush and fecund areas across Iran, noting the government needs
people’s help to materialize the major plan.
To that end, the Iranian Agriculture Ministry has
established a scientific committee to help the project’s Popular Headquarters.
