Tehran - Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in the production of dairy products, eggs, and poultry, reflecting steady growth in domestic agricultural output and food security, according to the deputy minister for livestock products affairs.

 

“The country produces approximately 12.8 million tons of raw milk annually and exports around 2.5 million tons of dairy products each year. Officials report that Iran is now fully self-sufficient in butter production. In the meat sector, about 80 percent of red meat demand, estimated at 945,000 tons, is supplied by domestic producers, while annual poultry meat production exceeds 3 million tons. Under current policy targets, Iran aims to raise red meat self-sufficiency to 90 percent by the end of the Seventh National Development Plan,” Mohammad-Ebrahim Hassan-Nejad said, according to the official website of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.

 

Despite these achievements, the livestock and poultry sectors continue to face challenges, including imbalances in energy supply and livestock feed availability, falling egg prices, and ongoing difficulties faced by beekeepers, he added.

 

“The government has announced support measures, including concessional financing, targeted subsidies, and the provision of essential inputs, to stabilize production and protect producers.”
