Iran, Zimbabwe discuss ways to boost bilateral agricultural ties

Iran, Zimbabwe discuss ways to boost bilateral agricultural
ties

Iranian minister of agriculture Javad Sadatinejad and his
Zimbabwean counterpart, Anxious Jongwe Masuka, explored ways to boost their
mutual cooperation in the sector of agriculture.

In a meeting in Tehran on Monday, the two ministers
discussed a wide range of issues including contract farming, transfer of
technical knowledge, barter trade, agricultural mechanization, pesticides and
fertilizers, and production of aquatic products.

Sadatinejad said Iran was ready to barter its urea -$100
million worth- for sugar from the African country per year.

He further urged the need for enhanced ties between the two
nations in the field of economy despite the good political relations between
them.

The Iranian minister said that Zimbabwe can also use Iranian
trade capacities for re-exporting of its agriculture products to a market of
300 million people in the region.

Masuka, for his part, said Zimbawe plans to import tractors
from Iran to respond to an unmet demand of up to 20,000 in his country.

The official, who leads Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Lands,
Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, said his country would need Iran’s
assistance on modernization of the agricultural machinery, on fishery and on
agricultural chemicals.
