Iran, Venezuela sign cooperation document to boost agricultural ties

Iran, Venezuela sign cooperation document to boost
agricultural ties

Iranian Agriculture Minister Seyed Javad Sadatinejad and his
visiting Venezuelan counterpart Wilmar Castro Soteldo signed a cooperation
document to deepen agricultural relationship between the two countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Tehran and
Caracas was signed during a ceremony in the Iranian capital Tehran last month.

Through the MOU, Iran and Venezuela intend to collaborate
across several areas including Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), soil and
water technologies, adoption, application, and uptake of science and
technologies, agricultural mechanization, and contract farming.

“Iran is also eager to enhance its cooperation with
Venezuela in the field of livestock feed and import supplies of corn and
soybean meal,” the Iranian minister said after signing the document.

Sadatinejad further stressed that he saw a bright prospect
for the ties between the two countries, saying Tehran is ready to transfer its
experience and technical knowledge to Venezuela in various fields including
research, mechanization and cultivation development.

Soteldo, for his part, said the ties between Iran and
Venezuela are strong and exemplary and that efforts will be made to boost
agricultural trade relationship.

“We are ready to supply Iran with 500,000 hectares of land
for extraterrestrial cultivation purposes,” he said.

The Venezuelan minister further said that the two counties
have signed an agreement to launch a regular shipping line and increase their
exports of agricultural supplies and other items.

Both Iran and Venezuela have
managed to withstand the economic pressures from the United States and have
closely cooperated to offset the impact of the illegal sanctions against the
two nations.
