Holding a video conference of the Ministers of
Environment of the Caspian littoral states
The meeting of the heads of the environment of the Caspian
littoral states was held as a video conference at the Environmental Protection
Agency. At the meeting, coastal environmentalists presented their views on the
environment of the Caspian Sea, its pollution, biodiversity and the protection
and exploitation of its living water resources. Isa Kalantari stated that: Iran
is located on the southern side of the Caspian Sea, so the pollution of other
countries enters our shores, and a
committee can be established, then other neighboring countries can help with
the pollution issue as well.
Kazakhstan's environment minister, Mazghoum Mirza-Ali-Ouf,
also said that: Since the Caspian Sea and its resources are entirely in the
hands of the Caspian littoral states and the Caspian Sea is a closed sea, we
all are responsible for everything that happens to its environment, and
specific country alone can be the savior of the Caspian Sea and all five
countries are responsible and should help each other for this important issue.
Then, the Minister of environment of Russia, Dmitry
Kobylkin, said that: The issue of the Caspian ecosystem has been raised many
times at the highest levels in the countries around the sea. He also mentioned
that: If there is an agreement, it should be between the five Caspian littoral
states and all the members, because the pollution of the Caspian Sea is a
concern of all the countries around this closed sea.
Finallay, the head of the European Office of the United
Nations Environment Program (UNEP) said: In order to protect the environment of
the Caspian Sea, we should try to increase coordination to make activities more
coherent. He also added that: We started the environmental program 20 years
ago, which dealt with the situation in the Caspian Sea, and since then, we have
tried to create legal frameworks, and based on this, we have had four
protocols, two of which were signed and approved and have reached the
implementation stage.
