Global Saffron Market of Iran

Deputy Minister of Horticulture Jihad-Agriculture said: Considering
that 92% of saffron production in the world belong to Iran, our share of the $
8 billion market for this product is less than $ 200 million.

Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi, at the unveiling ceremony of the
smart saffron value chain management system (saffron smart card) in Torbat
Heydariyeh, added: Every product that 25% of it is produced in a country, the
price and benefits of that product in the world should belong to that country,
which is not the case for us regarding the benefits of saffron, and the
solution to this problem is to strengthen the private sector and through
employing smart youth minds from non-governmental companies.

Deputy Minister of Horticulture Jihad-Agriculture also added:
With the production of 1.2 million tons of horticultural products in 250,000
hectares of gardens in Khorasan Razavi province, 43% of the production value of
this province in the agricultural sector belonged to the horticultural sector.

He then stated: Our country has 92% of saffron production in
the world, and Khorasan Razavi accounted for 320 tons of saffron, out of 431
tons, of country production, last year. Then he mentioned that: People of Torbat-e
Heydarieh have the right to proudly say that this city is the capital of
saffron in the world.
