Fishing season starts in northern Iran
Fishermen in the northern Mazandaran province are preparing
a large net to be launched into the Caspian Sea as the hunting season started
two days days ago.
The fishing season starts routinely in mid-October and lasts
for about six months. Roughly four thousand people in the coastal provinces of
Mazandaran and Gilan are engaged in fishing during the period.
A total of over 5,900 tons of bony fish were harvested in
the three northern provinces bordering the Caspian Sea since the beginning of
the fishing season in early October, registering a 82% increase compared to the
same period last year.
Some 15 species of bony fish inhabit the Caspian Sea.
