Fishery industry a ‘unique opportunity’ for economic growth:
Minister

Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Mohammad-Ali Nikbakht said
investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sector would provide a “unique
opportunity” for the country’s economic growth.

The Ministry of Agriculture attaches great importance to
investment in the sectors of fisheries, aquaculture, fishing, and watershed and
aquifer management, Nikbakht said last week visiting the western province of
Hamedan.

He added, “There is a unique opportunity in this sector that
makes it distinguished from other economic opportunities”.

Over the past three years, the efforts of the Aquatics
Production and Trade Union of Iran, and the non-governmental sector have led to
the addition of markets in countries such as Oman and Malaysia to Iran's target
export markets in the field of fishery.

Enjoying high quality, Iran’s fishery products were sold
easily in the export markets, and some new export destinations welcomed these
products in the past three years; as new markets including China, South Korea,
and the Eurasian Union nations opened up for Iranian fishery products.
