Tehran – Iran’s domestic production of hybrid seeds and vaccines for the poultry and aquaculture sectors will help reduce foreign currency expenditures and strengthen food security, according to the head of the Innovation and Prosperity Fund (IPF).

Speaking at the launch of national programs to develop hybrid seed production and livestock vaccines, Asghar Nourollahzadeh said the initiative seeks to address strategic needs through cooperation among the Ministry of Agriculture, the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, and knowledge-based companies.

He noted that the targeted products currently account for more than $100 million in annual import costs, and expanding domestic production could significantly reduce reliance on imports.

“Under Iran’s Seventh National Development Plan, the country aims to domestically produce 70% of its poultry and aquaculture vaccines and 50% of its hybrid seeds.”

Nourollahzadeh said achieving these targets would reduce foreign currency dependency, enhance food security, strengthen resilience during crises, and support the growth of Iran’s knowledge-based economy.
