Tehran - A new study has identified digital entrepreneurship as a key driver of the future of Iran's agricultural economy, outlining the policies and investments needed to accelerate the sector's digital transformation.

The research defines digital entrepreneurship as the use of technologies such as the internet, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and smart tools to create and expand agricultural businesses. It notes that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the value of digital solutions in maintaining market access, supporting supply chains, and improving business resilience.

According to the study, wider adoption of innovation, sustainable farming practices, faster information exchange, and greater integration into global markets are among the main factors driving digital agriculture. However, structural barriers, limited digital skills, and cultural and educational challenges continue to slow progress.

Researchers argue that while the shift toward digital agriculture remains gradual, it is ultimately unavoidable. They call for stronger legal frameworks, financial incentives, and training programs to support the transition.

The study also highlights the importance of expanding ICT infrastructure, encouraging private investment, and equipping farmers with digital and managerial skills. Greater use of technologies such as drones, smart sensors, robotics, and artificial intelligence could boost productivity, lower production costs, and improve natural resource management.

Despite challenges, including internet quality, cybersecurity concerns, and limited advisory services, the researchers conclude that a supportive economic and institutional environment could enable digital entrepreneurship to create new markets, attract investment, generate employment, and strengthen long-term agricultural growth.
