Expanding agricultural cooperation between Iran and Australia
According to the information center of the Ministry of
Jihad-Agriculture, Mr. Abbas Keshavarz, in his meeting with Lyndall Sachs,
Australian Ambassador in Iran, told: Iran and Australia have many potential
areas for cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture and food, which
need to be identified and developed.
He also added: The
climate and type of agriculture of Iran and Australia are very similar and the
two countries can successfully cooperate in exchanging their experiences and
expertise.
The head of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture continued: More
than 7 million tons of Iranian agricultural products are being exported
annually to various countries, including pistachios, dates and citrus fruits.
Mr. Keshavarz added: The area under wheat cultivation in
Iran is 6 million hectares, and Iran has been self-sufficient in wheat
production in recent years. The head of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture then
mentioned that: Exchange of knowledge and information in the field of
agriculture between the two countries; management of water productivity in
agriculture, production of wheat, cotton, oilseeds and legumes are some of the
topics of cooperation between the two countries.
