Congo’s environment minister highlights Iran’s ‘strategic’
role in fighting dust storms
Democratic Republic of Congo's Environment Minister Ève
Bazaiba described Iran’s role in combating sand and dust storms as “strategic”.
Bazaiba made the statement on the second day of the
International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms in the Iranian capital
Tehran on Sunday.
She argued that the fight against climate change as well as
sand and dust storms is a collective responsibility; so, we all should comply
with our environmental commitments, and we should not waste time, because the
repercussions will increase significantly.
The official further underlined the need for global
political will to combat climate change as well as sand and dust storms,
calling for adopting effective steps in this respect. The opening of a joint
fund to this end is of great importance, the minister added, according to IRNA.
She also praised Iran's effective role in fighting sand and
dust storms, expressing gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the
United Nations for holding the International Conference on Combating Sand and
Dust Storms in Tehran.
The two-day conference is being held on September 9-10
