Catching 30,000 tons of industrial fish in distant waters
Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Fishing Ports of the
Fisheries Organization of Iran said: Iran has the largest number of vessels in
distant waters among countries with 1400 fishing ships. Seyyed Parviz Mohebbi
added: Activities in distant waters, in addition to its economic impact, and
reducing pressure on coastal water reserves, are important in terms of waving
the Iranian flag in these waters.
He stated that the management, fishing quotas, and policies
related to fishing in distant waters are carried out by the Indian Ocean Tuna
Commission, and added that: It is important for Iran to strengthen its position
in this commission and to be able to participate in its meetings.
