Bushehr – The Bushehr Province Fisheries Department says the southern region is rapidly advancing toward becoming a national center for the production and export of farmed aquatic products, with strategic development efforts concentrated in the coastal counties of Bushehr, Ganaveh, and Deylam.

 

The Director-General of Bushehr Fisheries emphasized the need to continue identifying sectoral obstacles and strengthening support for private investors, noting that the province’s fisheries sector is now firmly positioned on a path toward national leadership in farmed seafood output.

 

He said Bushehr’s aquaculture programs are being implemented under a sea-based economic framework that encompasses shrimp, fish, algae, shellfish, leeches, and other high-value aquatic products. Shrimp farming is currently underway across 13 designated coastal sites, while fish cage farming in the Persian Gulf and inland aquaculture systems—including agricultural-pond facilities—are also in operation.

 

A member of parliament representing Bushehr, Ganaveh, and Deylam reaffirmed legislative backing for aquaculture expansion, noting that the region’s coastlines offer “significant and underused potential” and that investors in the sector will receive enhanced support.

 

Key priorities raised during recent discussions included upgrading fishing ports, streamlining export procedures, expanding supporting industries, and resolving insurance, administrative, and financing challenges—measures officials say are essential to unlocking Bushehr’s full aquaculture capacity.
