Blue economy key to
Iran’s economic growth, VP says
Iran's First Vice
President Mohammad Mokhber underlined the need for exploiting the country’s
marine resources and developing sectors like ocean renewable energy and marine
biotechnology, noting that the government should immediately devise a plan and
dive into marine economies, nicknamed blue economies.
“Iran has great resources of oil, gas, minerals,
and manpower, but the blue economy is one of the significant potentials and
areas that has been neglected until now and needs serious attention,” Mokhber
said recently.
He added, “The sea is the
largest source of energy, water, and food on the earth. Marine economies make
up 30% of the GDP of the countries with easy access to seas and coasts”.
Stressing the need to
protect coastal ecosystems, the VP said we very much see the blue economy as
fundamentally central for our region’s economic growth.
The blue economy is the
sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods,
and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystem.
