Alborz harvests 951 tons of medicinal plants, expands greenhouse production
Tehran – Alborz Province, which is situated 10 km west of Tehran, harvested 951 tons of medicinal plants, saffron and damask rose from 305 hectares of farmland over the past year, reflecting the province’s growing focus on high-value agricultural products.
According to Masoud Younesi, Deputy for Crop Production at the Alborz Agricultural Organization, further expansion of medicinal plant cultivation is constrained by the allocation of the province’s most fertile lands and water resources to higher-yield field crops.
Younesi also highlighted the province’s strong greenhouse sector, which spans 620 hectares. The sector produced 175 million ornamental flowers and potted plants from 128 hectares, while 445 hectares of greenhouses yielded approximately 135,000 tons of vegetables, strawberries, berries and grapes.
In addition, Alborz produced 3 billion greenhouse seedlings on 47 hectares, reinforcing its position as one of Iran’s leading centers for intensive horticultural production.
