1st national ornamental fish expo underway in Tehran

The first national “Ornamental Fish and the Aquarium
Industry” exhibition opened on Tuesday, August 8, at Goftogoo Park in Tehran
and will run till August 11.

“One important aspect of ornamental
fishes is their biodiversity and adaptation to various biological capacities,”
Hossein Hosseini, the head of Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO), said on
Tuesday inaugurating the exhibition in the Iranian capital.

He added that ornamental fishes are emerging as a major
resource for diversification of aquaculture and their trade is growing by leaps
and bounds.

“About 323 million fishes of
ornamental nature have been reported from various aquatic habitats in the
country”, the deputy minister said, noting that this industry can play a key
role in creating jobs and boosting tourism industry.

Various aquarium products, including aquarium fish, aquarium
plants, water toys, accessories and much more are being showcased at the fish
fair.
