120,000 tons of strawberry produced across Iran per annum,
official says

Some 120,000 tons of strawberries are produced across the
country per annum, an official with Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture said.

“30,000 tons of this amount are
harvested from 530 hectares of greenhouse areas,” Darioush Salempur said last
week.

6,000 tons of farmlands are under outdoor cultivation across
the country, producing some 90,000 tons of the crop, he added.

“Iran ranks 20th in the world for
strawberry production”, Salempur said.

Today, the biggest producer of strawberries by far is China
(more than 4 million tons), followed by USA, Mexico, Egypt and Turkey. Spain,
Russia, Poland South Korea and Japan complete the top 10.
