US import prices surge by most in 4 years

WDC – The US import price index recorded its largest monthly increase in four years during 2026, with the war against Iran emerging as a key driver of inflationary pressures, according to US Labor Department data and analysis by Bloomberg.

While President Donald Trump had promised gasoline prices below three dollars during his election campaign, prices in some US states exceeded five dollars following the 45-day conflict. The cost of agricultural production rose by 50 percent, and fertilizer prices climbed 70 percent.

Bloomberg has identified the war against Iran as a primary factor behind the intensifying inflationary pressures on the U.S. economy.

Labor Department figures show that the US import inflation index has risen by two full percentage points in just the past few months, the sharpest such jump in recent years.
