Semnan – Iran’s north-central Semnan province is introducing advanced aquaculture technologies by replacing conventional raceway trout ponds with prefabricated circular and octagonal tanks, a move aimed at boosting productivity, conserving water, and improving the sustainability of fish farming.

 

The plan, announced by the Fisheries and Aquatic Affairs Department of the Semnan Agriculture Organization, responds to growing pressure on water resources while promoting more efficient aquaculture systems.

 

The new tank design generates a continuous circular water flow, ensuring uniform oxygen distribution and efficient waste removal. This improves water quality, enhances fish health, reduces disease risks, and creates better conditions for rainbow trout production.

 

Officials said the modern system also supports higher stocking densities, better feed conversion, lower mortality, reduced water consumption, and easier farm management and harvesting.

 

The tanks can be integrated with advanced equipment such as drum filters, aeration and oxygenation systems, automatic feeders, and smart water-quality monitoring technologies, helping lower production costs and increase operational efficiency.

 

Provincial authorities said the modernization initiative is expected to increase production, improve product quality, raise farmers' incomes, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of Semnan’s aquaculture industry.
