Qazvin province produces over 1,000 tons of medicinal herbs annually

Qazvin – Farmers in Qazvin province, situated some 150 km northwest of Tehran, have produced and harvested more than 1,075 tons of high-quality medicinal herbs across 2,769 hectares of agricultural land over the past cropping year, according to the director of Horticulture at the Qazvin Agricultural Organization.

Mohammad Pileforoush noted that 250 species of medicinal plants have so far been identified in the province.

He added that these herbs are primarily cultivated in regions such as Alamut, Abik, Avaj, Buin Zahra, and other areas with minimal climatic fluctuations.

Among the cultivated varieties, the highest production volumes belong to damask rose, sumac, borage, lavender, calendula, galega, lemon balm, thyme, green cumin, saffron, and mountain leek, Pileforoush said.

He emphasized that these plants are used not only for medicinal purposes but also have wide applications in the food, cosmetics, and personal care industries.
