Tehran - Rural development and agricultural progress have accelerated markedly since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, said the Iranian Minister of Agriculture, emphasizing that maintaining national food security now demands higher productivity, smart resource management, and intensified efforts.

 

Gholamreza Nouri, reviewing post-revolution achievements in the rural and agricultural sectors, underlined the strategic role of agriculture in the national economy and food security.

 

He noted that since the Islamic Revolution, the expansion of rural areas and agricultural production infrastructure has gained significant momentum, with many villages evolving into dynamic hubs of production and employment.

 

The minister added that substantial investments in water and soil management, the development of modern irrigation systems, increased mechanization, and continued support for producers have not only improved rural living standards but also strengthened the country’s overall production capacity.

 

Addressing Iran’s current climatic, economic, and demographic realities, the minister pointed to challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and rising food demand, stressing that these pressures make more targeted planning and closer coordination among relevant sectors increasingly critical.

 

Describing food security as a national, cross-sectoral priority, Nouri called on provincial Agriculture organizations to adopt a more field-based and operational approach.

 

He urged them to accelerate development programs with greater precision while fully utilizing local and regional capacities to enhance agricultural output and ensure sustainable food security.
