Tehran - Mazandaran province has emerged as a leader in offshore fish farming within Iran, according to the head of Iran Fisheries Organization.

 

“In 2023, the province successfully deployed 40 offshore fish cages, resulting in a substantial production of approximately 1,850 tons of fish,” Hossein Hosseini said.

 

He added that this impressive output generated an estimated 460 billion tomans in revenue for the local economy.

 

Building on this success, 30 out of 65 planned new cages are slated for installation by fisheries cooperatives this year.

 

This expansion demonstrates the growing potential of offshore fish farming in contributing to Iran's aquaculture sector.
