Lorestan produces 160m juvenile fish, exports half to intl markets
Lorestan – The western Lorestan Province produces 160 million juvenile fish annually, with half of this output exported to other provinces and international markets, according to the Public Relations Office of the Iranian Fisheries Organization.
During a visit to fish farms in Khorramabad, Kiarash Beiranvand, Director General of Lorestan Fisheries, noted that the province hosts 700 active fish farms, producing a total of 42,000 tons of various aquatic species each year.
He emphasized that the backbone of the aquaculture supply chain is the production of juvenile fish and eyed eggs.
Beiranvandexplained that the province has the capacity to produce up to 280 million juvenile fish across 36 centers, with current production reaching 160 million. "Half of this output is distributed to other provinces and exported internationally."
The official further stated that Lorestan is capable of supplying 50 percent of Iran’s national juvenile fish demand and has the potential to expand production to 400 million eyed eggs with selective breeding programs.
