Tehran –Khorasan Razavi province has exported more than 45,000 tons of pistachios and related products worth $280 million to 11 countries in the Iranian year 1404, according to the head of the province's Agricultural Organization.
Majid Jafari announced that the northeastern province’s total pistachio production for the current year stands at approximately 85,000 tons.
“Exports include in-shell pistachios, pistachio kernels, green kernels, and other processed products.”
Jafari identified the main export destinations as Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Turkey, India, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.
He noted that last year marked a strong performance in pistachio production, processing, and exports, with total overseas shipments from the province exceeding 45,000 tons.
In a bid to ensure sustainable production and expand exports, the Ministry of Agriculture launched a "complementary action plan" last year in coordination with relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Health and the National Standards Organization, Jafari added.
The official put the province's dry pistachio output for 1404 at roughly 76,000 tons. He further stated that Khorasan Razavi ranks second nationwide in pistachio cultivation area, with more than 133,000 hectares of orchards.
While a significant portion of fresh pistachios is consumed within the country, Jafari concluded, the majority of the province's dried and processed pistachios are supplied to both domestic and international markets.
