Iran’s wheat output projected at 14 million tons this year

Tehran – Iran’s wheat output is planned to reach 14 million tons in the current calendar year, which ends on March 20, 2027, a senior agricultural official said, assuring citizens that the nation's food security is on solid ground and there is no reason for alarm over basic commodity supplies.

"Fortunately, we are going through a very good agricultural year," said Majid Anjafi, Deputy for Agronomy at the Ministry of Agriculture, during a visit to grain and oilseed farms in Lorestan Province.

"Wheat harvesting has already begun in the southern provinces."

Anjafi estimated total production at 13 to 14 million tons nationwide, with approximately 10 million tons to be delivered to the government under its guaranteed purchase scheme.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of wheat, he said, "Ensuring food security is a top priority. Strategic reserves and essential commodity stocks are in good condition. There is currently no shortage, and the public should have no worries on this matter."

The official added that continued support for the agricultural sector, stronger domestic production, and prudent reserve management will underpin the country's long-term food security.
