Iran’s marine fish output to reach 8,000 tons by year-end
Bushehr – Iran’s marine fish production from cage farming and prefabricated ponds is expected to reach 8,000 tons by the end of this year, according to the Director General of the Office of Shrimp and Marine Aquatic Affairs at the Iranian Fisheries Organization.
Speaking at a training workshop in Bushehr, Mehrdad Mohammadi-Doost, said expanding fish farming in prefabricated ponds creates new job opportunities for people with limited investment capacity and promotes sustainable development in coastal and rural regions.
He added that while most production currently comes from cage farming, cultivation in earthen and prefabricated ponds is just beginning, with detailed statistics to be released next year.
The official noted that Iran aims to boost marine fish output to 100,000 tons in the coming years by improving fingerling supply and strengthening the production chain.
Highlighting Bushehr’s potential, Mohammadi-Doost said the province’s long coastline and skilled workforce make it a leader in marine aquaculture development.
