Tehran - Iran’s agricultural sector grew by 5.5% and increased production by 9 million tons over the past year, despite drought and other challenges, a senior agriculture official said.

Mohammad Gol-Mohammadi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization, said the sector also achieved around $1 billion in savings through improved financial discipline.

He added that Iran maintained a stable supply of essential commodities and agricultural products despite recent crises, underscoring the strategic importance of food security as a pillar of national security.

Gol-Mohammadi stressed the need to strengthen applied research, technology transfer and links between research institutions and farmers to improve productivity.

He also announced that 36 agricultural projects worth more than 7.037 trillion rials will be inaugurated in North Khorasan Province during Government Week, aiming to boost production, employment and food security.
