Tehran - Stored-product pests affecting pistachios are among the most serious yet often overlooked threats to the production and export chain of this strategic crop.

 

By leveraging advances in biological science and controlled irradiation, nuclear technology offers a scientifically proven method to disrupt the reproductive cycle of these pests without resorting to chemical pesticides.

 

The issue of pistachio storage pests is deceptively complex. Unlike orchard pests, whose presence and damage are typically visible during the growing season, storage pests become active mainly after harvest, in confined environments such as warehouses, silos, and packaging facilities.

 

As a result, infestations are frequently detected only after a substantial portion of the product has already been damaged, at a stage when effective intervention is limited and economic losses are more difficult to prevent.
