Qazvin - Iran has unveiled a QR code system to identify and trace agricultural products in Qazvin province, situated some 150 km northwest of Tehran, a move aimed at improving transparency, strengthening supply-chain traceability, and safeguarding consumer health.

The system was launched during Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri's visit to the province, highlighting efforts to promote sustainable rural development and expand agricultural tourism.

Reza Bahramlou, the minister's adviser and director general of the Ministry of Agriculture's Office of Environment, Sustainable Development and Technology Affairs, accompanied the minister, along with senior ministry officials and provincial managers.

A highlight of the visit was the National Olive Festival in Tarom-e Sofla, where the QR code system for Qazvin's agricultural products was unveiled.

Bahramlou described the festival as a strategic opportunity to showcase the region's agricultural potential and promote sustainable rural development.

He said the event not only highlights Qazvin's agricultural capabilities but also creates opportunities to stimulate rural economies through tourism.

The region's olive groves, natural landscapes, traditional farming and processing methods, and locally produced goods offer significant potential for developing agritourism experiences and showcasing rural attractions, he added.

Bahramlou stressed that sustainable agricultural tourism must go hand in hand with the protection of water and soil resources, environmental conservation, and the responsible use of natural assets.

Bahramlou said the QR code initiative is designed to establish a comprehensive product identification system for agricultural produce.
