Iran to develop 450 hectare fish, shrimp farms using water saving tech
Khuzestan - Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province is set to develop 450 hectares of fish and shrimp farms using an innovative aquaculture system that eliminates the need for water exchange, in collaboration with technology parks, knowledge-based companies and agricultural townships.
Khuzestan Fisheries Director General Seyed Sharif Mousavi said preliminary arrangements had been made and initial meetings held to launch the project in Hendijan County.
Highlighting Khorramshahr’s aquaculture potential, he said the county currently accounts for 10% of Iran’s warm-water fish production and has the potential to become a major shrimp production hub through the use of alternative and available water resources.
Mousavi added that pilot shrimp farming projects using water from Naseri Wetland had been carried out at three to four farms, with combined production reaching 500–600 tons.
