Iran set to achieve self-sufficiency in hybrid silkworm egg production

Tehran – Iran is on track to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of hybrid silkworm eggs within three years, provided the necessary funding for rebuilding and modernizing production infrastructure is secured, the head of the country's Sericulture Development Center announced.

Habibollah Rezadoost added that this level of silkworm egg production would supply at least half of the raw silk required by Iran's carpet and silk textile industries.

Outlining the center's key policies and initiatives, he emphasized the importance of timely funding for sericulture inputs, including improved mulberry saplings and various types of silkworm eggs aligned with development plans, as well as for the reconstruction and upgrading of production infrastructure.

Other priority measures include granting low-interest bank loans to sericulture operators to support projects focused on restoring and expanding mulberry orchards, rebuilding and establishing silkworm rearing facilities, and setting up home-based silk-reeling workshops, the official explained.
