Iran seeking to attract private investment in cage aquaculture sector

Gilan – In a move to boost domestic aquaculture production, the Iranian Fisheries Organization (IFO) has announced new initiatives to attract private investment, particularly in cage fish farming operations.
In talks with Gilan Province officials, IFO Chairman Hamzeh Rostamipour outlined plans to develop the region's fisheries sector through public-private partnerships.
"Gilan's rich maritime heritage positions it as a national leader in aquaculture development," he said.
"We're creating unprecedented opportunities for private investors to participate in this vital sector."
Key investment opportunities include cage fish farming expansion along Iran's northern coastal waters, development of specialized seafood markets and high-end fish restaurants, conversion of traditional fishing cooperatives into multipurpose aquaculture-tourism centers.
The IFO has pledged to streamline regulations and provide technical support for private ventures. Rostamipour emphasized the need to integrate advanced aquaculture technologies to maximize production efficiency and environmental sustainability.
