Iran secures fertilizer self sufficiency, aims for global market

Tehran – Iran has made substantial progress towards self-sufficiency in phosphate fertilizer production, marking a significant milestone in the country’s agricultural sector.
The Managing Director of the Agricultural Support Services Company announced that with the successful implementation of domestic production projects, Iran is poised to not only meet its domestic needs but also emerge as a global exporter of phosphate fertilizers.
Until recently, Iran relied entirely on foreign imports for its phosphate and potash fertilizer requirements.
To address this dependence, a comprehensive plan was initiated, encompassing the establishment of 30 projects dedicated to producing various phosphate and potash fertilizers, as well as organic, biological, and compound fertilizers.
The plan also included the development of domestic phosphate and potash mineral resources.
By achieving self-sufficiency in phosphate fertilizer production, Iran strengthens its food security, promotes sustainable agriculture, and positions itself as a key player in the global fertilizer market.
