Iran says ready to develop fishery ties with Lebanon

The head of Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) announced Tehran’s readiness to expand its fishery cooperation with Lebanon.
Hossein Hosseini, in a meeting with Lebanese agricultural and fishery officials, emphasized Iran's readiness for enhanced cooperation in the field of fishery with Lebanon.
Hosseini has traveled to Beirut to explore ways for the further development of fishery ties between the two nations.
"218 million tons of aquatic products are produced in the world, of which 99 million tons are in the fishing and hunting sector and 36 million tons are in the aquatic plant sector. Iran enjoys 40 years of experience in fisheries and can transfer this experience to Lebanon."
The head of Lebanon's agriculture and fisheries sector, for his part, expressed willingness to develop fishery ties with Iran and said, "Despite being a coastal country located on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, Lebanon has made little use of the riches available in the sea."
He added, "We are working on cage fish farming and want to ask Iran to transfer its knowledge in this field.”
The official continued, "The existence of a large fishing union in the country and fishing cooperatives, large and small ports, are among Lebanon's potentials."
