Tehran – Iran has the potential to become a major food supply hub in the region thanks to its access to open waters, strategic trade corridors, and strong production capacity, Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said.

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 24th Tehran International Livestock, Poultry and Related Industries Exhibition, Nouri highlighted Iran’s global standing in the livestock and poultry sectors. “In terms of productivity, quality, and milk yield, Iran’s dairy industry ranks second in the world after the United States,” he said.

 

He credited the country’s progress in animal husbandry to the dedication of producers, researchers, and experts in scientific and educational fields, noting that the poultry industry alone is valued at about $15 billion.

 

Nouri emphasized that Iran’s geographic position - with access to open waters in the south, the Caspian Sea in the north, and the soon-to-be-completed east–west and north–south transport corridors - provides a unique opportunity to strengthen the country’s role in regional food security.

 

“With the capabilities of our producers in sectors such as poultry farming, animal feed, aquaculture, oil extraction, and flour milling, Iran can serve as a key hub for food supply among neighboring countries,” he said.

 

The minister reaffirmed that ensuring food security remains a central mission of the Ministry of Agriculture, adding that “supporting production and producers is the top priority in all the ministry’s policies and programs to ensure the stability and sustainability of agricultural output.”
