Iran ranks 79th globally in organic production
Tehran - Iran secured the 79th place among 280 countries in global organic production, according to the head of the Iran Organic Association.
Speaking at a press conference for the 14th Iran Organic Festival, held at the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Seyed Reza Noorani said that despite the rapid global growth of the organic sector, Iran has yet to establish a foothold in international trade for these products.
He explained that organic products account for 20–25% of total food consumption worldwide, while domestic consumption in Iran remains minimal.
He emphasized the need for greater public awareness and cultural promotion to encourage the adoption of healthy and organic diets.
The official noted that the high production costs of organic goods are a major challenge, with prices typically 30–50% higher than those of conventional products worldwide.
Detailing the upcoming festival, Noorani announced that the 14th Iran Organic Festival will feature over 100 exhibitors, presenting a wide range of products including honey, rice, legumes, tea, canned olives, olive oil, pasta, fruits, and various dried nuts.
